East coast-bound traffic has built up at the Gombak toll plaza this morning, as Klang Valley folks continued to head back to their hometowns on the second day of Aidilfitri.

Traffic flow at the Gombak toll plaza heading to the East Coast is smooth and under control tonight.

Congestion was also reported before the Gombak Toll Plaza exit heading towards the city centre.

A JPJ enforcement personnel was killed in a road crash while pursuing a suspected motorist at Kilometre 13 of the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) heading towards the Gombak Toll Plaza today.

Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) at Taman Melati junction in Gombak has been upgraded and fully opened to road users starting today.

There are roadblocks set up by PDRM to conduct thorough inspections and those found to be errant will be directed to return to their original destinations.

Malaysian Highway Authority said it expects 300,000 vehicles to use its expressways during the interstate movement from today until Sunday.

Gombak police chief ACP Arifai Tarawe said in the incident at around 2 a.m, the Perodua Alza driven by the suspect appeared suspicious before evading the roadblock and fleeing towards Kuala Lumpur.

A Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) spokesman said the chockablock stretching from the Gombak toll plaza to Lentang began to build up about 3am and is expected to persist till late this evening.

But traffic along the LPT2 route in both directions is still under control and smooth flowing.

North bound traffic is congested from Slim River to Sungkai & from Ipoh to Sungai Perak R&R while eastward traffic is slow from the MRR2 heading to the Gombak toll plaza & up to Bukit Tinggi.
